April 2013 – Newsletter

From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

Congratulations and Welcome Home!   That is what I’ve been hearing following a great 2013 Grand Chapter Session and Installation of Officers for 2013-2014.  Thanks to all of you for your love and support as Brother Otto and I begin “The Colors of Life” year.  We thank all that made the Installation so beautiful and meaningful for us.

Sister Shirley Boone, PGM, and Brother Gene Cagle, PGP, have completed a busy, successful year and we thank them for this year of service, with many more to come as Past Grands.  Congratulations to Brother George Wilkinson, AGP, and Sister Rovenia McDonald, AGC, on their election to the Grand Line.  We are so pleased to have them as a part of our Grand Family this year.

The month of April is busy with all of the Official Visits of the District Deputy Grand Matrons.  Please support them by attending their meetings.  You just might learn something new or be reminded of something you have forgotten when performing the ritualistic work.

If you haven’t seen the Winter edition of the Eastern Star Journal I encourage you to read it.  Louisiana is well represented with 4 great articles!  One article is about Sister Shirley’s and Brother Gene’s fun trip to Washington D.C. and visit to the OES Temple, another about the charity work done by Vidalia Chapter #37, one about the interesting Eastern Star life-journey of Sister Anita Fields-Gold, PGM and a write-up about the International Grand Secretaries Association and our very own Sister Terrie Castay, GGC Ambassador and Grand Secretary being installed as Vice President of the group.  All great reads!

One of the special projects for this year is Shriner's Transportation and we will be selling tubs of Scott's Soft Peppermints for $10.00. The State Chairmen are Terry Howes, PP, and Raymond Roush, PP, and they will be working with the District Chairman who will be selling and distributing the candy. All those selling candy, please remit your monies to your Chapter Secretary and they will send the monies on to the Grand Secretary. Secretaries please send the money in as you receive it - don't hold till the end of the year.

Remember April Showers – There are two kinds of people:  those who look up when it rains to enjoy the smells and sounds of nature, and those who look down.  Those who look up see vibrant green leaves at the tops of trees, shimmering under layers of water; those who look down see the mud.  Whether rich or poor, young or old, humble or proud, the only people who seem happy are the ones who keep their heads tilted upward, even on what most people would call the gloomiest of days.

May the Easter Season be with you always!

Star Love and Lilies For You!
