January 2014 Newsletter

From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

In December the Grand Family was able to slow down a bit, but we did attend Arkansas Grand Chapter. 22 Grand Officers, Past Grands and LA Members made our way to Little Rock and were able to get back home just as the ice storm hit the area. I was honored to bring the response on behalf of the Distinguished Guests.

Some Chapters held their Installations in December and others will be in January. It has been wonderful to be a part of several, either as the Installing Officer or the Installing Marshal. May each Chapter be renewed with enthusiasm and love for our Order. Brother Otto and I wish all a most successful year!

The tentative program for Grand Chapter has been distributed. I hope you all will make plans to attend. We are working hard to make it special for you. Your participation will help make this Grand Chapter Session a success and one that is enjoyable and memorable for all. Forms for registration, banquets, and tours can be found at the Grand Chapter website: www.laoes.org or from your Chapter Secretary. Your hotel reservations for Grand Chapter can be made online at www.crownebaton.com or by phoning Maggie Maddie – Reservation Manager for Crowne Plaza at (225) 925-2244 from 8-5 weekdays. Be sure and use the code Eastern Star to get the $99 per night rate.

Personal Achievement Awards forms/names are due - send to Sister Karen Porter, PM – Co-Chair Membership at 61004 N. Military Rd, Slidell 70461 or kfporter@bellsouth.net

Disaster Assistance Pop Tabs and Cans Please redeem if possible and turn in the monies to your Chapter Secretary You can also bring your pop tabs to Grand Chapter.

If you would like to receive the OES Friendship Line e-mail just send your request to laoesfriendship@aol.com

Brother Otto and I, Sister Judy (Grand Esther), Brother Jesse Campo, PP and Sister Nell Wright, PM were humbled to attend the military burial services of PFC Jerry Pat Craig, the Uncle of Sister Anita Fields-Gold, PGM, at the Central LA Veterans Cemetery in Leesville on December 19th. His remains had been identified and returned after being buried in Hawaii for 60 years as unidentified from the Korean War.

The funeral services for our very own Sister Audrey Barker, PGM, were on December 21 at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Haughton. Many Past Grand Matrons and Patrons of Louisiana performed a beautiful Eastern Star service under the direction of Sister Joye Denny, PGM. I was one of Sister Audreys District Deputies and will miss her very much as will all of Louisiana Eastern Star. Sister Audrey had to be smiling to see so many wearing her frog pins!

Iam pleased to announce that Sister Mary Howell, PGM, will complete the 15 months remaining on Sister Audreys term on the Work and Ritual Committee. She is one of two committee members representing the Northern Section of the state.

Please consider making your Honorariums and Memorials to our OES Projects this year: Alzheimers, Cancer, ESTARL, Disaster Assistance and Shriners Transportation.

Star Love and Lilies For You!
