Dear Sisters and Brothers,

 

As April showers brought May flowers, May brought the LA/TX Friendship Exchange, Mother’s Day, the first and second Official Visits, Memorial Day and the AR/LA Friendship Exchange.  The LA/TX Friendship Exchange was a tremendous success and Sisters Elizabeth Roach, PGM; Margaret Ann Taylor, GCCM; Nancy Berry, DDGM; and Rose Gary, GCCM, are to be commended for doing a fantastic job of a delicious meal, fellowship and lots of fun. Thank you so much.

 

Sister Velma D. Hays, PGM, started the tradition of setting aside June’s Silver Drill for the Rainbow Girls and October’s Silver Drill for the DeMolay Boys.   Please help continue this tradition by donating your June’s Love Offering to the Rainbow Girls. 

 

June is the month set aside to honor our Fathers and The American Flag.  Helen Steiner Rice paid tribute to fathers with the following poem:

 

DADS are special people,  No home should be without,
For every family will agree - They're 'SO NICE TO HAVE ABOUT' -
They are a happy mixture -  Of a 'SMALL BOY' and a 'MAN'
And they're very necessary - In every 'FAMILY PLAN' -
Sometimes they're most demanding - And stern, and firm and tough
But underneath they're 'soft as silk'  - For this is just a 'BLUFF' - But in any kind of trouble
Dad reaches out his hand. - And you can always count on him - To help and understand -
And while we do not praise Dad - As often as we should, - We love him and admire him,
And while that's understood, - It's only fair to emphasize - His importance and his worth -
For if there were no loving Dads  - This would be a 'LOVELESS EARTH'.

 

We covet your prayers for Sisters Gladys S. Allison, PGM and Betty G. LeBourgeois, PGM, who are recovering from recent surgeries. Ruth Louise Spofford, PGM, and Brother Vernon E. Ballard, PGP, are not doing well and need your prayers as well.  Sister Viola Barnard, Grand Ruth, has been hospitalized for over a month.  Please remember her in your prayers.  Cards may be sent to her at the following address:

Saturday, June 13, 2009—DISTRICT 16.  Central Star Chapter No. 23, 11525 Sullivan Rd., Baton Rouge (Central).  Dinner at 5:00 p.m. Meeting follows.  Housing Chairman:  Norma Jenkins, PM, 7057 Landmor Drive, Greenwell Springs, 70739.  Phone:  225-261-3258.  Directions:  From 1-10 in Baton Rouge take the Airport/Harding Blvd Exit.  Go East on Harding Blvd.  Harding Blvd becomes Hooper Rd. (HWY 408). Proceed about 7 miles to Sullivan Road.  Turn Right on Sullivan Road at the light.  Lodge Hall is the 3rd Building on the right.  It is a two-story white brick building.  It has a chair lift.

From the East Heading West on 1-12, take the Denham Springs exit.  Proceed North on Range Avenue.  Cross over 190 and go about 4 miles.  Turn left at light on HWY 3034 (Burger King on your right and McDonalds on your left).  This is Magnolia Bridge Road which becomes Wax Road and Dead-Ends at Sullivan Road.  Turn Right on Sullivan Road.  Lodge is about 1 mile on the left. Sunday, June 14, 2009—DISTRICT 14.   Hope Lodge, 105 Carl Street, Lafayette.  Refreshments at 1:00 p.m. Meeting follows. Directions:  Take Exit 100 (Ambassador Caffery Parkway) from I-10.  Head south on Ambassador Caffery (LA-3184) and stay to the left after crossing Cameron Street (old Highway 90) for a total of 2.3 miles.  Stay to left at fork where LA-3184 becomes Bertrand Drive / LA 3025, heading towards the Cajundome and University Medical Center.  Travel 0.5 miles, and then turn right onto Rayburn Street, at light immediately after Louisiana Technical College at Lafayette campus. Travel two blocks, then the Lodge will be on the left (metal building) at 105 Carl St.   Additional parking is available at lot across Rayburn St., behind the Technical College campus. Directions:  From I-10 take Williams Boulevard exit and proceed south (toward Mississippi River). Cross Airline Highway, go one block, turn right, go 2 blocks and turn left on Daniel Street.  Lodge is on the left at end of block.  From Highway 61 turn toward river at Williams Boulevard.  Proceed as above. From Jefferson Highway turn on Williams Boulevard.  Go over Railroad Tracks, turn left, go 2 blocks to Daniel Street, turn right, Lodge is on the right.  Virginia Lacher, DDGM

 

Sunday, July 12, 2009—DISTRICT 18.  Pearl Masonic Lodge No. 456, 64468 Hwy 41, Pearl River.  Meeting at 2:00 p.m. followed by refreshments.  Directions:  Coming from the New Orleans area, take I-10 Eastbound.  Cross the Twin Span Bridge over Lake Ponchatrain and proceed Eastbound on I-10 thru Slidell.  Exit I-10 onto I-59 Northbound at Exit 267-A (Hattisburg).  Continue on I-59 North to the first Pearl River Exit (Exit 3) and turn left at the stop sign.  Go over the overpass and continue around 2 sharp curves and across the railroad tracks.  There will be a traffic light at this intersection which is the intersection of Highway 41and Highway 11.  Go across the intersection (Highway 41, North) for approximately 8/10 mile and the Lodge will be on the right.  Coming from the West, take I-12 Eastbound to the Pearl River/Slidell Exit.  At the stop sign turn left and proceed on Highway 11 to the second traffic light.  This is the Highway 41/Highway 11 intersection.  Turn left on Highway 41 North and go about 8/10 mile.  The Lodge is on the right.  Cheryl Ladner, DDGM

Directions:  From I-49 take Exit 138 to Many, stay slight left at red light.  Go one block. Turn right on Main Street. Church on left. Parking instructions below.  From Hwy. 171 South, turn right on Alabama Street, then left on Magnolia Street.  Church on right.  From Hwy. 171 North turn left on Alabama Street, then left on Magnolia Street. Church on right. Follow yellow ribbons and signs. Parking for HANDICAPPED in front of Life Center.  All others park in back of Church or across the street at First Baptist Church.  Joy Carter, DDGM.

 

Sunday, July 19, 2009—DISTRICT 13.  Love Chapter No. 209, 501 Willow Street, Sulphur. Meeting at 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments follows meeting.   Directions:  If you are coming from Shreveport area or the Southern area, take I-10 West. Take Exit 21 which is DeQuincy, Route 27 N exit and turn right.  You will come to Beglis Parkway.  Go to the 3rd red light and turn left (Hwy 90).  Go to the 2nd red light and turn left.  Navarre Chevrolet will be on the corner.  Go straight ahead about 3 blocks and you will see the Masonic Lodge.  There is parking across the street, at the side of the building and in the high school parking lot.  Barbara Stumpf, DDGM.

GENERAL GRAND CHAPTER – TULSA, OKLAHOMA

            The “Council Fires” Forty Sixth Triennial Assembly 2006-2009 will meet on October 30 through November 5, 2009, at the Tulsa Convention Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Brother John McDonald, Grand Warder, 585 Wells Rd., Haughton, 71037-7390, has been appointed Louisiana Chairman of Housing for General Grand Chapter.  All members who are attending please let Brother John know.  We need this information.  Sister Linda Lamkin, PGM, has been appointed Chairman of Hospitality for General Grand Chapter.
