June 2013 Newsletter
From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The Schools of Instruction will be completed soon and that means that the Official Visits will begin this month. The District Deputies are busy making plans to welcome the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron and Other Grand Officers to your District! I hope all members come out and make each a huge success. We need you! The projects that Brother Otto and I have selected can only be successful if you come and support them. We want you to collect items for Alzheimers patients in your area, save pop tabs for our OES Disaster Relief Fund, sell and buy Scotts Peppermints for Shriners Transportation and support our efforts to raise money and awareness for Cancer and ESTARL!!
we know all too well about disasters, Louisiana OES would like to lend a
helping hand to our Brothers and Sisters in Oklahoma. If you would like to give a donation either
individually or by chapter, please send your donation to the Grand Secretary,
Sister Terrie, noting it as a donation to Oklahoma OES Disaster Fund. We will be sending it to OK as a donation
from Louisiana. Note: My paternal Grandparents, Loral and Matilda McNary, were members of the OES Chapter in Moore, OK. Our own LA Disaster Assistance Fund has
already helped a Louisiana OES family this year and we will be sending $1,000
from the fund to OK in addition to your specific contributions. So save your pop tabs this year, so we can
raise monies for this special
In order for our members to stay better connected to each other and to learn of sickness and deaths throughout our membership, the e-mail OES FRIENDSHIP LINE has been started. Please submit items that would be of interest to the membership, such as illness, deaths, etc. so that we can pray for each other and be thinking of each other. The e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to receive these notices, just submit your e-mail address. This means of communication cannot replace the notification between chapters concerning meetings and honor nights. But if a chapter or district is holding a charity fundraiser on the weekend or night other than their regular meeting night, these announcements can be submitted.
Brother Otto’s and my FUN TRIP will be to Chicago! We will be taking the overnight Amtrak train - catching the train in either New Orleans or Hammond in the afternoon and arriving in Chicago the next morning. We will see the sights of Chicago for 2-3 days and return home by Amtrak. So save the date for the 4th week in September. Trip plans are being finalized so if you are interested please let me know so trip information can be sent to you. E-mail: LMcNary2@cox.net
SHRINERS TRANSPORTATION PROJECT: Secretaries please get your Peppermint Candy sales monies to the Grand Secretary ASAP. We need these monies remitted so we can pay for our next shipment planned for June 1. Thank you so much for your help with this.
Let’s keep our Veteran’s and Service Men and Women in our thoughts and prayers this Memorial Day and proudly fly our flags on Flag Day! HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!! Celebrate the men in your life!!!
Star Love and Lilies For You!
