May 2014 – Newsletter

From the Desk of the Worthy Grand Matron:

I hope you have all had a great start to a new year.  The DDGMs are all working so hard to complete their visits.  Thank you for how well you have received them.  Also, thank you to the chapter members who work so hard in preparation and then attend these visits.  Don’t forget to keep up with your points for the Personal Achievement Award.

Nine of us got the year off to a traveling start by attending Florida Grand Chapter. I was accompanied by the GGC Ambassador of New Jersey, three Past Grand Matrons, Grand Adah, and three special friends.   The next week Brother George and Sister Diane - Committee Members of GGC, six Past Grand Matrons and Patrons, seven Grand Officers, and 15 members attended Mississippi Grand Chapter.  We were in Tupelo, the birth place of Elvis, so of course during the Main Banquet, Elvis was in the building.  A good time was had by all.

Our project pins are in and are being disbursed throughout the state.  The pins have the following charms;  Masonic emblem to represent the Grand Lodge Dyslexia Program; a purple ribbon, Alzheimers; a pink ribbon, Cancer; a blue ribbon, Special Olympics; and the Scottish Rite emblem for the Scottish Rite RiteCare.

We will be educating you about the different projects as we travel.  However, it has come to my attention that few know about the Scottish Rite. The Speech and Language Centers provide speech and language services to children who need additional services than those provided by schools.     My grandson received

2 ˝ years of speech therapy at no cost to my daughter.

Reminders:  On May 18th join us for the 100th Birthday of Jewel Chapter #100 in Glenmora. A light meal will be served at 1:30 p.m. and the celebration begins at 2:30 p.m. Don’t forget to order your tickets for the LA/AR Friendship Exchange.  We want to bring the boot back to Louisiana! Also check the schedule of the Official Visits which will be starting June 14. It is time to make arrangements to attend the “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” OES Friendship Exchange in July.

CANDIDATES:   Candidates for AGP, AGC and other Elected Boards, get your Letters of Intent into the Grand Secretary ASAP.   During my remarks at the Official Visits I will be asking you to introduce yourselves.   I think it is important that the membership know who they will be voting for at Grand Chapter!

Quote of the Month:  “I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkenss for it shows me the stars.”  Og Mandino
